I am Shulamit Saeger, the ESOL teacher. This is my sixth year at Lexington 3, Batesburg-Leesville. I have had several years experience in teaching elementary and primary grades. For four years I lived overseas and taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). I have taught either English or in a mainstream classroom to students K5-high school and adults.
English Language Services at BLES provides extra English instruction for students 3-5 grades who speak another language, other than English, at home or who are bilingual. This year at BLES family languages include English, Spanish, Chinese, Hebrew, Urdu, Vietnamese and German. Sadly, some of our families are losing family languages as generations pass. With respect for our elders and appreciation for language I am sure that BL can grow stronger as we hold on to our own origins and appreciate the diversity of others in our community.

Reports Due:Asia: Reports for all countries in Asia are due no later than Dec 16, 2009.
Europe: Reports for all countries in Europe are due no later than February 26, 2010 Africa & North and South America: Reports for Africa & North and South America are due no later than March 31, 2010. Any student who speaks another language at home, is bilingual or who spoke a language other than English before kindergarten should be considered for extra English instruction and/or monitoring. All returning students should have been assessed or tested for this service. If you have a bilingual student 1st-12th grade, who does not receive ESOL services, but who falls below grade level please contact me via email or the school principal. Bilingual students should have accommodations in teaching methods, materials, curriculum and requirements as needed throughout their academic career.
